Portals, email attachments, and upload forms love to impose file-size limits — “must be under 500 KB”, “maximum 2 MB”. Guessing JPEG quality settings until you land under the limit is tedious, so this free image compressor does it for you: type the exact target size and it binary-searches the highest quality setting that fits, usually landing within a few percent of your number.

Compression shrinks file size, not pixel dimensions or DPI — though if you also need smaller pixels, pair it with the image resizer. Everything runs locally in your browser, so even large batches of client photos stay private.

How smart compression works

Rather than guessing one quality setting, this tool binary-searches JPEG/WEBP quality (from 5 to 100) to find the highest quality that still fits your target size. It usually lands within a few percent of the number you typed. If even the lowest quality can't reach a very small target, it will tell you the smallest size it could achieve.

PNG note: PNG is lossless, so "quality" doesn't apply. PNGs are converted to JPG or WEBP for compression here. If you need transparency, use the format converter instead.
